About the press

A little magic, set in type.

Wizard Press is a small independent house with an outsized voice. We publish bold nonfiction and memoir with craft, wit, and conviction — books that change how a reader sees themselves.

We publish a little, on purpose. Every title earns its place on the list. We look for the writer who says the thing out loud — the one with a spine, a point of view, and a sense of humor about the whole business of being alive. No filler. No fairy tales. No chasing whatever the algorithm rewarded last quarter.

The name is a wink and a promise. The wizard's hat is the trick of it; the quill is the work. Good books feel like magic and are built like furniture — and we sweat both halves.

What we look for

Nonfiction and memoir with a strong first-person voice and an argument underneath. Reported essays, narrative how-to, the kind of book a reader presses into a friend's hands. If it would change how someone sees themselves — and it makes you laugh at least once — it's our kind of book.

Submissions

We read query letters year-round. Send a short note: who you are, what the book is in two or three sentences, and why you're the one to write it. A sample chapter is welcome but not required to start.

Query us at [email protected]. We answer the queries that are a fit; given the size of the list, we can't reply to every note, but we read them all.
